Counselling

Are you ready to become the best
version of yourself?

Let’s take the first step towards your goals.

The importance of counselling

The importance of counselling

You should never have to cope with life’s challenges alone.

As a highly experienced counsellor, I am committed to ensuring that you live the best life possible, by providing expert, customised counselling services to help you through any stage of life.

I see counselling as a professional relationship, in which I empower you to overcome mental health, emotional, physical, spiritual and relationship challenges, and ultimately lead a happier life.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, more and more people are feeling disconnected from others.

This often results in feeling like there is no one to talk to about personal problems, leaving many suffering in silence.

Allow me to assist you to live a more joyful, productive life.

I can help you cope with the mental, emotional and relationship problems in your life, such as grief, loss, depression and anxiety and more.

Help is given through intensive talk therapy, designed to help you:

  • – Change your behavioural, thought and communication patterns
  • – Eliminate negative self-talk
  • – Discover new ways to think about and cope with your circumstances
  • – Create new, positive coping strategies
  • – Focus on your goals and values
  • – Let go of past disappointments, and more

Don’t suffer in silence.

Reach out and get the help you need to live the life you deserve.

Does counselling really work?

Counselling is an extremely effective form of therapy.

However, you will only experience its true benefits if you are willing to put in the work.

You must want to change, and be willing to change the way you think about yourself and your circumstances.

If you have the courage to do this, counselling can transform your life.

Counselling is especially effective for two types of people.

One – People who’ve experienced an unexpected life change

If you’ve recently experienced the loss of a partner, have lost a job, or are dealing with a sudden illness, for instance, counselling helps you adjust to what life will be like and learn how to cope with the changes moving forward.

Two – People who are dealing with long-term emotional challenges

Many people are dealing with long-term conditions, like depression, anxiety, feelings of neglect, and more.

This requires long-term counselling or psychotherapy, as people need to learn how to rebuild aspects of their life and how they address and overcome challenges.

Counselling does this by firstly helping you understand what is wrong and how it occurred. This does not change things, but helps clarify the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of your obstacles.

Secondly, counselling helps you to change your behaviour, so that you react to situations and the people around you in more balanced ways. We get to the ‘how’ of your solution.

Counselling or psychotherapy?

As these two forms of therapy have a lot in common, some people believe they mean the same thing.

However, counselling and psychotherapy have distinct differences, and produce different results in clients.

Counselling mainly involves short-term consultations, one or two hours per week, for instance.

During counselling, you work with your therapist through issues which are resolved on the conscious level.

Counselling sessions involve working through and finding effective outlets for powerful emotions, like anger, grief and sadness. As your therapist I will also help change the way you think about and respond to issues such as depression, anxiety and panic disorder.

Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is treatment which takes place over a longer period. As the name implies, psychotherapy examines your psychological history, in an effort to uncover the root(s) of your problems.

It is a journey during which you evaluate and examine attitudes, behaviours, communication and thought patterns, and how they influence your life and relationships.

Throughout the process, you may experience drastic improvements in your self-esteem, self-worth and overall life experience.

Why should I attend counselling?

Many people falsely believe that counselling is only for people who are suicidal or suffer major mental health issues.

This is not true.

Even if you believe you’re coping reasonably well, counselling can be immensely helpful.

Just as you would schedule regular check-ups with your Doctor to evaluate your physical health, or regular maintenance at the garage to ensure your car is running at full speed, your mental health should always be a priority.

Going to counselling sessions can:

  • ✔ Provide you with a safe place to express your feelings – Not only can you say everything that’s on your mind, you’re also with a trained professional who will listen and help you work through these emotions.
  • ✔ Help you become comfortable with your feelings – Saying what you’re feeling aloud to someone who can legitimise your feelings and help you through them prepares you to tackle them.
  • ✔ Help you express yourself with your family, friends and partners.
  • ✔ Help you work through issues yourself. During treatment, you’ll receive advice and learn techniques to work through your problems.

As you progress, you learn how to put this advice into action to cope with everyday problems.

What is relationship counselling and does it help?

Relationship counselling focuses on helping couples resolve immediate problems or long-standing issues that may impact their relationship.

Relationship counselling can help couples:

  • – To improve their communication
  • – Revitalise their emotional connection
  • – Renegotiate their commitment to each other

Some in relationships attend counselling to resolve serious relationship problems, or issues that have been left unattended for too long.

While others use counselling to maintain their relationship, by discussing minor problems before they become severe.

Ultimately, there are no right or wrong reasons to seek relationship counselling.

If you feel as though you and your partner would benefit from an objective and unbiased third party, then counselling would be ideal for you.

What to expect

When attending an online therapy session for the first time, many clients do not quite know what to expect. While it may sound surprising, online therapy is very similar to traditional, in-person therapy.

What is online therapy like?

While similar, there are a few key differences between in-person and online therapy, one of the main differences being that you never actually meet your therapist. Despite that, you do form a very close relationship over the internet (i.e. either via video or text).

You may feel a little nervous during your first session, as you adapt to the format. However, over the next few weeks, you’ll find that online therapy is just as effective as traditional sessions.

Counselling 101

Finding a qualified and experienced online therapist is easier than ever before.

Gone are the days of stigma with countless people finding the help they need when they need it most.

Offering help with all manner of mental, emotional and personal difficulties, there is never a wrong time to seek support.

Is online counselling for mental health reliable?

Online counselling provides the flexibility and accessibility that comes with a digital service, with the proven benefits of traditional face-to-face counselling.

As a qualified counsellor my online services offer the same value as my Wollongong based treatments – dealing with all manner of mental health conditions, from depression to bipolar disorder and more.

As more counsellors have move to the online environment, virtual therapy is subject to the same rigid ethical and quality standards as traditional therapy.

So, you can rest assured that online mental health counselling is just as reliable as one-on-one therapy.

Which website is the best for online therapy and counselling?

I appreciate how difficult finding the right online therapy site can be quite difficult.

That’s why I’ve been committed to making it easier than ever to find the perfect online counselling and therapy solution for your needs.

I am available to offer tailored therapy and counselling for every mental and emotional challenge you may face.

Where can I get effective counselling services?

Whatever mental health challenge you are facing (i.e. depression, anxiety, panic disorder, marriage difficulties and more), you can be confident that you will have the support you need.

We’ll discuss your problems together to tailor a customised treatment, rather than use a generic ‘one size fits all’ treatment plan. This will help you deal with the root of the challenge and overcome it, once and for all.

Are there online options for therapy?

My personal motto is that help is always available when you need it. In this respect, I offer high-quality online therapy platforms to suit you. You can access a wide variety of e-therapy/e-counselling options, including email, chatroom discussion, Zoom consultations and more.

What do you want in an online therapist or therapy site?

As online therapy increases in popularity, people are expecting the same level of experience and expertise as face-to-face therapy.

Patients expect their online therapist or counsellor to be available at times (and on platforms) convenient to them.

And, most importantly, they expect their online therapist to be knowledgeable, compassionate, understanding and easy to talk to.

In appreciation of these desires I am always available to help you through the unique challenges you face.

Does online counselling really work?

Yes. In fact, online counselling can be more effective than face-to-face meetings, particularly in cases where stigma exists (such as drug abuse or addiction) or limited mobility.

Online counselling works particularly well if you’re unable to travel to a therapist’s office for appointments, or feel intimidated having intimate conversations face-to-face.

This option is also helpful if you want to foster a professional relationship with a particular counsellor (i.e. who specialises in a particular area), or you cannot find a local counsellor who suits your needs.

What are the benefits of relationship counselling and is it effective?

Relationship counselling is most effective for couples who are experiencing serious relationship obstacles (i.e. infidelity, difficulties in communicating, constant arguments, etc) and those who want to give their relationship a “top up”, to ensure that little disagreements don’t become major problems down the road.

The main benefits of relationship counselling include:

  • – Improved communication
  • – A reinvigorated emotional connection
  • – A forum to re-negotiate your commitments to each other
  • – An opportunity to talk through problems so they do not become more serious

Does grief counselling really work and what are its basic goals?

It can be very isolating trying to get through the grieving process alone.

Grief counselling is an ideal option for people who have lost a loved one or close friend and need to work through their emotions in an effort to resume their normal lives.

The key goals of grief counselling are:

  • – Remembering the past: This invhttolves you telling your story without judgement or shame.

During this time, you are encouraged to focus on the life of their loved one (i.e. through journaling, finding mementos, etc), while I walk you through the grief process and what you can expect.

  • -Redefining the present: This stage involves examining roles and restructuring relationships, restructuring their bond with a loved one (i.e. converting the relationship from presence to memory).
  • -Recreating the future: During this stage, new opportunities, hopes and dreams are discussed; you are encouraged to find insights from their loss, to rediscover your hope and purpose, and begin investing in new relationships.
